Privacy Policy

FinishingMaterial sells flooring, doors, windows and cabinets to homeowners and trade customers across the San Francisco Bay Area, through this website and by phone. In this policy “we” and “us” mean the operator of finishingmaterial.com.

We collect what an order, a quote or an account actually needs — and not more.

• Order information — your name, delivery and billing address, email address, phone number, the products ordered, and the quantities and measurements you gave us.
• Account information — your email address, your order history and any saved addresses. Accounts are identified by email address.
• Quotes and project enquiries — room dimensions, project notes, service area and anything else you send so we can price the work.
• Files you upload — room photographs used by the design tools, and competitor quotes or screenshots submitted for a price match.
• Technical data — IP address, browser and device type and the pages you viewed, gathered through cookies and analytics.

We sign you in with a one-time code (OTP) or a magic link sent to your email address. There is no password step, which means we never ask for, receive or store a password for your account.

Codes and links are short-lived, single-use, and tied to the email address that requested them. Because your inbox is the key to your account, keeping that inbox secure is what keeps your order history private.

Card payments are processed by Stripe. Card number, expiry and security code are entered directly into Stripe and are never transmitted to or stored on our servers. We receive only the payment confirmation, the amount, and the card brand and last four digits so we can match a payment to your order. Stripe processes that data under its own privacy policy.

Room photographs uploaded to the design tools are used to generate your visualisation and to help you if you contact us about it. Files submitted for a price match are used to verify the competing price and honour the claim. Price-match uploads are stored outside the public web root and are not browsable from the internet. We do not sell uploaded images, and we do not publish them in marketing without asking you first.

Strictly necessary cookies keep your cart and signed-in session working. We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and products people actually use, in aggregate — it tells us behaviour patterns, not who you are.

You can block or clear cookies in your browser. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will break the cart and checkout.

Transactional email — order confirmations, delivery updates, sign-in codes, quote replies — is sent because you ordered something or asked us something, and cannot be unsubscribed from while an order is open. Marketing email is sent only if you opted in, and every marketing message carries an unsubscribe link that works.

We publish our own marketing content to social platforms using a self-hosted scheduling tool (Postiz). When a member of our team connects a FinishingMaterial business account — Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, X, LinkedIn, YouTube or Reddit — that platform issues an access token which allows the tool to publish posts on behalf of that account and read back the resulting engagement metrics.

This applies only to accounts we own and connect ourselves. We never request access to a customer’s personal social account, and connecting an account is never part of buying from us. Tokens are held on infrastructure we control, are used only to publish and measure our own content, and the permission can be revoked at any time from the platform’s own security settings — see Data Deletion.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it with the service providers who make the business run, limited to what each one needs:

• Stripe — payment processing and fraud prevention.
• Google — analytics, Merchant Center product listings and Workspace email.
• Our email provider — delivery of transactional and marketing email.
• Postiz (self-hosted) — scheduling and publishing of our own social content, running on infrastructure we control.
• Delivery and installation partners — the name, address and phone number needed to deliver or install your order.

We also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, safety or property.

Order and invoice records are kept for 7 years, because tax and warranty obligations require it. Account records are kept while your account exists. Quote requests and price-match uploads are kept for two years. Analytics data follows Google Analytics’ own retention settings. When a period ends we delete the data or irreversibly anonymise it.

You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send you a portable copy. Email contact@finishingmaterial.com and we will respond within 45 days. Full instructions are on the Data Deletion page.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what we collect and why, to delete it, to correct it, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of those rights. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising— so there is nothing to opt out of. You may still ask, and we will confirm that in writing.

This site is intended for adults buying building materials. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16, and we have no features aimed at children. If you believe a child has given us information, email contact@finishingmaterial.com and we will delete it.

If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and move the effective date shown at the top. Material changes are also announced by email to account holders.
